The trend, explained
What is the Shaking Head trend?
The Shaking Head trend, also called Cat Shaking Head, Cow Shaking Head or the Smug Head Shake, is a close-up of one face doing two things in a loop: eyes shut, a smug smile and a slow sway of the head, then eyes suddenly wide open and the tongue out at the lens. People lay a caption over it, such as how their friend acts after an argument, and the face does the talking.
The wave started on 19 October 2026 with a calf post by @melvdih at about 6 million views. On 20 October @baller213465 posted the cat version we follow, which TikTok labels as AI-generated, at about 2.4 million views, and on 24 October @lemonglow83 posted a tutorial for a CapCut template that swaps in your own person or pet, at about 792,000 views. Counts were read on 29 October 2026 and not audited. Whether the calf post is AI-made is not stated.
MimicZip makes your own version from one photo of an adult or a pet, following the first 7 seconds of the cat clip, which is two full rounds. The caption is not in the video: add your own text in TikTok. This is an internet meme. MimicZip has no link to the accounts that posted it.

What happens in a Shaking Head video
A 7-second video has two rounds of the same face on one fixed camera. Timings are approximate, and the 5-second preview runs through the same beats faster.
01 · 0–1s
Smug squint
Your eyes are shut, your mouth is closed in a pleased little smile and your head sways slowly from side to side.
02 · 1–3s
Eyes snap open
At about 1 second the eyes open wide and the tongue comes out, staring straight into the camera.
03 · 3–5s
Back to the sway
The eyes close again, the smug smile returns and the head tilts and sways slowly once more.
04 · 5–7s
Second reveal
The eyes open wide with a calm stare, then the tongue pokes out again and the look holds to the end.
Your photo decides who is shaking. The camera, the framing and the order of the beats are fixed, and every result comes out a little different.
How to add the original sound in TikTok
Open the clip marked above, tap Use this sound, upload your video and keep the sound at 0s.Show the full how-to
Our videos come with an AI-made original soundtrack. To use the trending sound instead, add it inside TikTok when you post: that also puts your video on the sound's page, where people following the trend look. You can also download a silent version from My videos and put the original sound on that.
- Open this clip in TikTok: our video follows it. Tap the sound name at the bottom, then tap Use this sound.
- Tap Upload and pick the video you downloaded from us.
- Open Volume and turn the video's own sound down to 0, or download the silent version from My videos.
- To line up the beat, use the scissors (trim) to start the sound from 0 seconds, then post.
Need to move where the sound starts? This short video shows how to trim it.

Shaking Head AI: frequently asked questions
What is the Shaking Head AI trend?
A fixed close-up of a face, usually a cat or a calf, with its eyes shut, a smug smile and a slow head sway, then eyes suddenly wide open and the tongue out at the camera. AI versions put your pet or you in the lead. The explainer guide has the timeline.
How do I make the Shaking Head video with my photo?
Upload one photo of your pet or an adult, keep the place from the photo or pick another, check your photo with a 5-second bonus preview, then make the full 7-second 720p video for 1 credit. There is no prompt to write. The how-to guide covers each step.
Can I try it for free?
Not at the moment. MimicZip has no free tier or free preview; one full 7-second 720p video costs 1 credit, and packs start at $8.99. Every pack includes bonus watch-only previews so you can check your photos before spending a credit. There is no subscription, and the full video has no watermark.
Can I add the original sound and will it line up?
Yes. Our video follows the first 7 seconds of the @baller213465 cat clip, so open that clip in TikTok, tap its sound, use it on your video and keep it starting at 0 seconds: the first stare lands where it does in the cat clip.
Which sound does the Shaking Head trend use?
The cat clip we follow uses a TikTok sound called “original sound I.d.k NAME”, and later copies reuse it. We do not include it. The sound guide says how to add it.
Is the sound in my video?
No. Our video comes with new AI-made music that changes from video to video and can include made-up vocals or wordless sounds, never the original recording. You add the trending sound inside TikTok, where it is licensed. A silent download is available.
Will the caption text appear in my video?
No. The clips online carry a text caption laid on top, but your video has no text at all. Write your own caption in TikTok or CapCut when you post.
Is this connected to CapCut or the accounts that posted it?
The look also spread as a CapCut template, and a tutorial post for it shows a person and a pet swapped in. MimicZip is an independent template tool: your video is generated from your own photo and is not made, endorsed or licensed by CapCut, TikTok or the accounts that posted the trend.
More questions (8)
How many photos do I need?
One. The template has a single role, the head-shaker, so add one sharp photo of a single pet or adult with the face toward the camera and the eyes open. A photo with two animals or two people in it confuses the result.
Can I use a photo of my pet?
Yes. Cats and dogs are the classic, and any animal with a clear face can work. The pet stays on four legs and only the head and the face move. Toys, drawings and children are not accepted.
Does the video have a watermark?
The full 7-second 720p video has no watermark. Only a preview carries a PREVIEW badge, and the preview cannot be downloaded.
Can I change the room or the outfit?
Yes. Places: the one in your photo (the default), a cosy bed, a living-room sofa, a kitchen, an armchair or a garden. Outfits: what is in your photo (the default), a pastel hoodie, a cream knitted sweater, a white tee, blue pyjamas or a denim jacket, with a tiny matching one for a pet. Colour tone: natural by default, or warm, cool, pastel, vivid or retro film. The head movement and the timing stay the same.
Is there a CapCut template for Shaking Head?
Yes, a CapCut template for the trend is circulating. A template works inside its own app, while MimicZip needs one photo on the web and gives a finished 7-second video with bonus previews in every pack. The comparison explains when each one fits.
Do I have to write a prompt?
No. Shaking Head is a fixed template, so there is no prompt box: you add a photo and pick the place, the outfit and the video shape. Prefer your own tool? Copy the ready-made prompt from the Kling prompt page.
What if a video fails, and how long are my photos kept?
A failed generation returns its credit automatically, and unused packs can be refunded within 7 days; see the refund policy. Photos are stored privately and deleted automatically 14 days after upload.
Were the Shaking Head examples really made on MimicZip?
Yes, every example went through the MimicZip generator, starting from the input photos you see on the card. Those starting photos are AI-made and do not show real people or real pets. We never use another creator's video as an example. Yours will follow your photo, so expect different details.
