What is the Shaking Head AI trend?
Updated:
Short answer
It is a close-up loop on a fixed camera. A cat, a calf, a dog or a person keeps their eyes shut with a smug smile and sways their head slowly, then suddenly opens their eyes wide and sticks out their tongue at the lens, two or three times. A caption on top supplies the joke.

Where it came from
An early calf version circulated as a CapCut template in August 2026, and the wave that people mean today began on 19 October 2026 with a calf post by @melvdih, at about 6 million views. Whether that post is AI-made is not stated.
The cat version we follow came a day later from @baller213465, at about 2.4 million views, labelled by TikTok as AI-generated. A tutorial post on 24 October showed how to swap in your own person or pet with a CapCut template. Counts were read on 29 October 2026 and not audited.
Why people copy it
- It is one expression: the squint and the stare need no skills and no props.
- The caption does the joke: people write how a friend, a sibling or a boss behaves, and the face plays it out.
- Pets sell it: a calm cat or a fluffy dog is funnier than any acting.

Questions people ask
How long is one round?
About 3 seconds: a squint with the head sway, then a stare with the tongue out. Ours has two rounds in 7 seconds.
Does it have to be a cat?
No. The calf started it, cats made it big and a dog or an adult works just as well.
Is the caption part of the video?
No. Add your own text in TikTok when you post.
